I while ago I got a comment from a stranger on the internet I’ve never spoken to before. I had uploaded a picture of my face, and this person told me that “you’re only showing your face because you’re afraid to show us your body. I bet you’re fat, just admit it, otherwise you wouldn’t hide it”. Since then I’ve got similar comments from others since I prefer not to put pictures of my body on the internet.
First of all; I am not “fat”, nor am I size 0. And what if I was fat? Would that do any differ? If people want to see bodies, there are plenty of places where they can see them, especially on the internet. I’m not obliged to show you my body because you try to provoke or dare me to do it.
And second; it is entirely my choice when it comes to what I want to put on the internet. My face is my identity, what people can identify me by. I mean, you probably wouldn’t see me anywhere and go “oh, it’s that girl whose body I saw on the internet, i recognize it”. My face is something everyone can see almost anytime. My body, on the other hand, is something I want to be able to share with whoever deserves it. The way I walk and move around is mostly for my friends and anyone closer to me to know about, not the strangers of the internet. I’m not ashamed of my body, but it’s my choice whether I want to show it or not, and that applies to everyone. Don’t make assumptions based on what I post or do not post. (There might exist pictures of me where my body is included on the internet, but I wouldn’t put my body in focus for you to enjoy.)
So yeah, here you go. A face selfie. And stop judging and provoking people you don’t even know!
